If the darkness of January has you feeling blue, you’re not alone! Studies show that January is the peak month for depression, in large part due to decreased daylight. We’re sharing our 4 favorite cozy ways to self-soothe, re-center and lift your spirits.
Dry Brushing: Dry brushing boosts energy levels and morale by improving circulation and helps the lymphatic system eliminate toxins and other wastes from the body. It’s also one of those rare spa treatments that feels just as good when you do it to yourself. Dry brush for a few minutes pre-bath or shower, in long gentle strokes towards the heart and we guarantee you’ll feel in-touch and invigorated.
Abyhanga Massage: Abyhanga Massage (a full-body warm oil self-massage) de-stresses, rejuvenates mind and body while leaving you with soft, supple skin. Heat a bottle of body oil in a bucket of water (or the sink) so that it is warm, but not hot. Our favorite oil for this is our mineral-rich, luscious Undaria Algae Oil. Gently massage your entire body with oil. Begin at the scalp, continue down to the face, outer part of the ears, neck, arms, hands, fingers, chest, tummy, back and legs. Finish with the bottoms of the feet. Wait a few minutes before getting dressed to allow oil to absorb or rinse in a warm bath. Abyhanga massage is pure self-love.
Holy Basil Tea: This adaptogenic herb is the perfect potion for soothing, relaxing and just chilling out. Holy Basil relieves stress, creates emotional balance, warms and calms. For a real treat add some homemade almond milk and a few drops of coconut nectar. Yummmm!
Foot Soak: If you do just one thing this weekend, try a relaxing warm foot soak. Pour 1-2 cups of magnesium-rich epsom salts into a large bowl of warm water. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils (we love organic lavender and chamomile). Soak your feet for 10 minutes while meditating, or reading or Instagram stalking (don’t worry, we won’t judge).
So relax, get cozy and soothe away your weekend.
